The FCCLA year has started out with a bang. The Gilbert FCCLA has made some great changes. One of the changes is Friday Morning Café program. We have purchased an espresso machine and added new items including specialty coffee drinks, fruit smoothies and gourmet baked items to the menu. This year is the second year Gilbert is participating in Peer Education. It is already off to a rocket start. Peer
Education consists of four areas, which are Families First, Student Body, Public Relations, and Financial Fitness. Families First helps youth understand how families function and work to strengthen the family unit. Student Body assists students in learning to maintain and improve their health. Through financial fitness students learn about managing money and building long-term wealth. Public relations members focus on getting the word out about FCCLA. Last year we had 8 of 11 people complete all three projects. This year 12 people are participating in this program.
On September 19, some chapter members spoke at the School Board and informed the board on what we do in FCCLA. We talked about our Veteran’s Breakfast coming up on November 12. The Veteran’s Appreciation breakfast is when we invite veterans and prepare a warm breakfast for them and have conversations with them. Star events were also one of our main topics of the night. STAR Events stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. We also informed the board on the STAR Events and the trips we went on for doing well in them, including Florida, California, and Nashville.
