On August 8th and 9th the SEC met in Ankeny for their monthly meeting. First we discussed National Leadership Conference; how we bonded as a team, all the new ideas we discovered, and how we could improve for next year. Following that, we began planning for Fall Leadership Rally, which will be held on October 5. We lined up speakers and prepared breakout sessions to get Iowa FCCLA members excited for a new year to do great things with FCCLA. We have so many new and exciting things for you to see!
Our Peer Education Team Leaders; Chelsea Boyden (Vice-President of Families First), Nick Greiner (Vice-President of Public Relations), Alesha Terveer (Vice-President of Financial Fitness), and Kilie Akers (Vice-President of Student Body) all met with Janet Mann, the Iowa FCCLA Peer Education Coordinator to receive training for the upcoming projects. Overall, we got a lot accomplished and we are excited to see you all on October 5 at Iowa State University! The SEC and nearly 100 other Iowa FCCLA Members gathered in Washington D.C. for the 2015 National Leadership Conference. The Conference was full of accomplishments, including 68 participants competing in STAR events, earning 36 gold, 27 silver, and 5 bronze medals. The SEC also introduced the 2015-2016 state theme: Destination Leadership: Pave the Way! The SEC bonded with members from across the nation during their training sessions, where they also learned about Effective Communication, Group Dynamics, and the Responsibilities of Leaders. The Iowa Officers took pride in using their communication skills to build the largest straw tower of any state! This year’s national theme, Together We Are Healthy, introduced the newly revised Student Body program, which includes a new mental health component. National FCCLA also announced our partnership with Leed2Feed for the National Outreach Project. At the conclusion of the conference, a new National Officer Team was elected to serve for the upcoming year. Our Officers returned home with their heads spinning with new ideas to make this year the best year ever for FCCLA. We look forward to seeing you at our next event! This Tuesday two state officers, Kate and Nick, and the national officer candidate, Sydney attended the IACTE/IFCSE Conference in Des Moines to promote Iowa FCCLA. They attended several breakout sessions where they helped new advisers and potential advisers to gain a better understanding of FCCLA. Kate and Nick even had to opportunity to meet with DMACC President Rob Denson and share their personal experiences with him. Later that night, the three were able to speak to FCS teachers about the benefits of having FCCLA in their communities. The conference was a wonderful experience for the team to network with advisers, hand out business cards, and set up school visits. |
